Caning & Rushing
Cane work is a form of weaving that has been used in furniture design for hundreds of years. In fact, archaeologists have discovered cane seating in ancient Egyptian tombs dating back to 1352 B.C.
This ancient art is found on many antique pieces from small bedroom chairs to a full 3-piece suite.
Some pieces only have either the seat or the back caned whilst others, such as the antique rocking chair shown here, display cane work on both panels.

The cane is woven through the holes around the furniture frame and this is what will determine the time and cost of work for a panel.
